Genealogy

In late 2000 in my second year of high school I was introduced during lessons in History to genealogical research. Almost continuously since that moment I have worked on gathering information on my ancestors as a hobby.

After 20 years I want to release some of the information to the wider public. For family members a database can be found with the link at the top of the page.

Automatic transcription of hand-written text

Since several years the Transkribus software is available that uses various trained neural networks to read hand-written text. It has a steep learning curve but once you are accustomed to it it can accelerate transcriptions. As an experiment I applied it to the indices of the death records of Bardenberg from the year 1876 up to 1888 and corrected the 95% accurate transcription.

The file located here has the first ten years as an example.
